October Couple

Meet Don and Basia. They got married last night. I shot this picture with my Sony Alpha 100 and my Sony 70-300 telephoto lens. We had all but lost the daylight; there was just a bit of amber glow left in the sky. Shutter speed 30; f-stop 4.5.

Handsome Man

Don, the groom. I said, "Think about Basia," and a big smile came over his face. Shutter speed 125; f-stop 4.5.
Basia, the bride to be. The light was all but gone. So I shot this with my on-camera flash. Shutter speed 125; f-stop 4.5.

House Tree

This old rusty overhang belongs to the out-building pictured below; it's tucked behind Cloverbottom Mansion in Hermitage, Tennessee. I love how the curvaceous tree creates a graceful sun umbrella for the straight structure. I used my Sony Alpha 100 and Sony 18-70 zoom to shoot this. Shutter speed 1/160; f-stop 8.

Little House in the Green

This is an out-building behind Cloverbottom Mansion, which is located in Hermitage, Tennessee. I love its character, the juxtaposition of craggy planks and the spring green, velvet carpet of grass. I used my Sony Alpha 100 and Sony 70-300 telephoto lens to shoot this. Shutter speed 1/160; f-stop 6.3.

Tangled Blossoms

This photo was taken at the Centennial Park Herb Garden in West Nashville, TN. The garden is maintained by the Herb Society of Nashville. I shot this by getting directly underneath the tree, and shooting upward. Shutter speed 1/250; f-stop 6.3.

Bananas in Blue Bowl

I really like this photo because of the unusual lighting. I tipped a regular tungsten lamp toward the bananas to highlight them, while keeping the area beyond in the dark. I shot this with my Sony Alpha 100 and 18-70 zoom lens. Shutter speed 1/30; f-stop 4.5.

Thyme for Spring

This is a giant thyme plant growing in the herb garden at Centennial Park in West Nashville, TN. I love the way the light touches the sides of each gentle frond and sets it apart. The herb garden is maintained by the Herb Society of Nashville. Shutter speed 1/320; f-stop 8.

Red on Red

I was getting ready to cut this strawberry when I saw the picture – red against red. The green is on the opposite side of the color wheel, providing an interesting contrast. To shoot this in focus, I got on the other side of my kitchen pass-through, stood on a chair and zoomed in very tight with my Sony 70-300 telephoto lens. Shutter speed 1/13; f-stop 5.6.

Apple Cart

I have been challenged to take one(1) photo per day this spring, as a way to spark new creativity in myself. I even have an accountability person who encourages me and keeps me on task. If a shot is blog-worthy, it will be added to this photo blog. I took this picture at the neighborhood grocery. I love the way the red apples sparkle! This pict was taken with my Sony Alpha 100 and Sony 70-300 telephoto lens. Shutter speed 1/125; f-stop 4.5.
